Ernie is a nationally-recognized, seasoned tax professional with a wealth of education, experience, common sense and good old-fashioned values.  He established EMD Tax Consulting (EMD) in 1997 and has led the firm since inception.

In 2009, Ernie departed from a national tax consulting firm to focus exclusively on the expansion of EMD.  From 2004-2009, Ernie held the position of Senior Tax Manager with a national tax firm. In that role, he directed all aspects of their Northeast practice.  Ernie managed a myriad of tax consulting projects for some of the largest and most widely recognized companies in the world.  Ernie has advised the following companies: Agfa, Amphenol, Chemtura, Delaware North, EMC, Flight Safety, Lubrizol, Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Monster Worldwide, Novartis, Pep Boys, PSS World Medical, Saint Gobain, Teknor Apex, Teradyne, Terex, Toray Plastics, United Technologies, Verizon Wireless, Wal*Mart, Watts Water and many others.  Most of these projects involved audit defense or reviewing and analyzing complex federal and multi-state income/franchise tax returns for tax minimization opportunities and/or exposures through reverse audits, credit analyses and NOL studies, along with the reporting of state tax changes attributed to federal audit adjustments.  During his tenure, Ernie uncovered over $100 million of tax savings opportunities on behalf of his clients. Within one year at this national tax firm, Ernie's talents were acknowledged by honoring him with a designation to the nationwide, three-member, "Key Income Tax Management Team."

For the 8 years prior to joining the national public tax sector, Ernie held the position of Tax Manager for a Fortune 500 company located in downtown Providence, Rhode Island.  In that position, he managed, trained and developed tax professionals as well as advised subsidiaries, divisions and departments on income, sales/use and property tax matters.  Ernie was also responsible for compliance, accounting, planning, due diligence, policies/procedures and year-end analyses pursuant to FASB Statement 109 on behalf of 50 legal entities conducting business in the U.S. and abroad.  In addition, he participated in software implementations of Property Tax Management Software (PTMS), Vertex Quantum and CorpTax.  Ernie also designed custom on-line tax research manuals (featured in the company's 1998 Annual Report), initiated compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and participated in various Six-Sigma Blackbelt/Greenbelt projects. Ernie's peers of tax professionals honored him with the highest distinction of voting him Tax Department Employee of the Year in 1998 and again in 2001. This Fortune 500 company also honored Ernie with the unique privilege of featuring him in their 1998 Annual Report. In that same year, he also appeared on the cover of the Institute of Professionals in Taxation (IPT) magazine, along with his Sales/Use Tax classmates.

In addition, during the 1996-1997 tax seasons, Ernie also held the position of Tax Professional for a well-known local tax firm. He was responsible for preparing and reviewing hundreds of complex federal/multi-state individual and business tax returns annually.

Ernie is well-versed in a variety of tax research resources, such as: CCH, RIA, BNA, PPC and Kleinrock, as well as tax/accounting-related software, such as: CORPTax, ProSystem fx, Fast Tax, GoSystems, Tax Dimensions, ATX, Turbo Tax, Vertex Quantum, PTMS, Quickbooks and MS Suite of Products. He is also fluent in Portuguese and speaks Spanish.
